Wage Subsidy Programme under PRIHATIN to benefit employers – Minister of Human Resources

PUTRAJAYA, Mar 28: The Wage Subsidy Programme under the PRIHATIN package announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today set to benefit the employers affected by the Covid-19 outbreak and Movement Control Order, says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, Minister of Human Resources.

“Through the Wage Subsidy Programme which is to be implemented by the Social Security Organisation, RM600 will be given to the private sector workers earning RM4000 and below, through employers who experienced more than 50% income reduction since January 2020.”

“Under this programme, employers must make the claims for their employees. Employers are not allowed to lay off their workers, deduct their salaries or force them to take unpaid leave for 3 months after they had benefited from the Wage Subsidy  Programme,” said Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

“The Wage Subsidy Programme will take effect from the 1st April 2020. A total of RM5.9 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Human Resources for SOCSO’s Employment Insurance System to implement this  programme, which will benefit 3.3 million private sector workers in the country. I would like to stress here that the Wage Subsidy Programme is the extended version of the Employment Retention Programme (ERP) announced in the earlier Economic Stimulus Package, on the 16th March 2020,” explained Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
