We are grieved by the sudden death of Ms. Vinosiny Sivakumar, a 21-year-old accounting student at UUM. She is suspected to have suffered a fatal electric shock in her hostel room but no official report have been published till date.
We are requesting that all the relevant authorities to carry out a detailed and transparent investigation on this matter so to provide clarity to the family and the general public.
We also urge the Ministry of Higher Education, to conduct a thorough inspection to be done on all student hostels and facilities. On the 12th of May 2022, reports were also made on a ceiling fan which eventually caught fire at a public university hostel. A thorough inspection must be done, the safety of our students CANNOT be compromised!
The passing of Ms.Vinosiny Sivakumar, a smart and active student is a great loss for our community and country. Our sincere condolences to the friends and family of Ms. Vinosiny Sivakumar. May her good soul, Rest In Peace.
