MIC’s proposals cover key areas, which include improving university admissions, women’s empowerment and economic opportunities.
Saravanan underscores the importance of tailored initiatives to address social issues within the Indian community.
MIC has submitted an eight-pronged agenda to the government for inclusion in the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said party deputy president M Saravanan.
He said the proposals cover key areas such as improving university admissions, preschool education, women’s empowerment, religious affairs, economic opportunities, and community-specific programmes.
Saravanan underscored the importance of tailored initiatives to address social issues within the Indian community, describing the 13MP as a pivotal opportunity for meaningful reform.
He stressed that conventional approaches are no longer sufficient and called on the government to adopt innovative, targeted solutions to the challenges facing the Indian community – a task that, he said, demands both strategic planning and firm commitment.
“Malaysia needs to brace itself to become an ageing nation by 2030.
“All-encompassing policies are required to back the ageing population and guarantee their welfare,” he told Malaysiakini.
Future-proofing
Saravanan, who is also Tapah MP, emphasised the importance of equipping young Malaysians with future-ready skills to remain competitive in an increasingly demanding job market.
He said youths should prioritise developing resilient skill sets aligned with the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, particularly in areas like artificial intelligence and robotics.
He noted that employers are now seeking candidates who possess both technical expertise and soft skills.
The former human resources minister reiterated the urgency of preparing the younger generation for a dynamic job landscape.
“With a focus on talent, education and skills, it will be relevant and applicable to all Malaysians,” Saravanan added.
On June 27, it was announced that Second Finance Minister Amir Hamzah Azizan would assume the duties and responsibilities of the economy minister following Rafizi Ramli’s resignation.
Amir has been tasked with restructuring and revising the contents of the 13MP, which is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on July 31, 2025.
