PETALING JAYA: Thousands of MIC members will attend the Jan 6 rally to be held in solidarity with former prime minister Najib Razak, says party deputy president M Saravanan.
The Tapah MP defended the rally as being “beyond party-based and racial politics”, saying it is about securing justice for Najib concerning the royal addendum.

“There is no political agenda. The peaceful assembly by thousands of Malaysians on Jan 6 is to show solidarity with Najib,” he said in a statement.
The rally is being organised by PAS, with an internal party memo sighted by FMT saying it will focus on Najib’s appeal for leave to commence judicial review proceedings over the purported royal command.
Issued by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, the memo called for party members to gather for prayers and speeches at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya at 9am.
Umno will also be at the rally, with over 200 busloads of Najib’s supporters expected to attend the rally, comprising Umno and PAS members.
This will mark the first time the two parties are working together since their alliance under Muafakat Nasional ended in 2022.
Bersatu leaders are also expected to be in attendance. The party’s information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz has said its leaders and members are free to join the PAS-led rally in the spirit of “national reconciliation”.

Najib is currently serving a six-year prison sentence, halved by the pardons board from the initial 12 years, following his conviction in the SRC International case.
The rally is being held on the day the Court of Appeal will hear his application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest, an order which he claims was issued in a supplementary decree to the Feb 2 announcement.
