KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 20: The anxious wait of more than 1,100 Malaysians stranded in Indian airports, especially Chennai and Trichy is finally coming to an end with the efforts of MIC President Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and his Deputy Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.
The ordeal started last Monday when the Indian government cancelled all flights to and from the Covid-19 affected countries, including Malaysia. The Malaysians who head to the airports to fly home were shattered with the decision, especially those in families who were not prepared financially and emotionally to face the predicament.
With their cries for assistance were making viral on social media as well as their families in Malaysia, Tan Sri Vigneswaran approached the Foreign Affairs Minister Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Hussein to arrange the affected Malaysians to fly home. Datuk Seri M. Saravanan through his strong networks and allies in India ensured their immediate needs, accommodation, meals, safety and wellbeing taken care promptly, around the clock.
Wisma Putra was in full swing to obtain the special permission from the Indian government for the flights landing and evacuation of the stranded Malaysians. The initial batches of Malaysians flew home from New Delhi and Vishakpattanam yesterday.
MIC went to an extra mile today, bearing the cost of RM 1.05 million for the 6 specially chartered flights from Air Asia to bring home the remaining 1,100 plus Malaysians from Chennai and Trichy airports. The commitment and perseverance of Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and Datuk Seri M. Saravanan to end the fiasco and ensure the safe return of the Malaysians are widely appreciated by the affected group, their families and the general public.
